Financials see market forward
Aussie stocks advanced by around 1.5% on Tuesday. A poor lead from the US was largely ignored by local investors who poured funds into local banks.

ASX reports strong December trading
ASX said trading volumes in December were significantly above levels in December 2007. The company said trading in banks and other blue chips helped underpin activity.
Valad realises $65m from M4/M7 position
Valad said it had achieved early realisation of its M4M7 Eastern Creek VCS position. The company said it would realise approximately $65 million from the position.
Leighton to writedown $170m on investments
Leighton Holdings said the falling value of its toll-road investments would reduce its half-year result by $170m. The company cited the global financial crisis as the reason for the writedowns.
Warehouse Group December sales fall
The Warehouse Group said sales for the last ten weeks were down 2.5% compared to the same period last year. The company said it expected adjusted NPAT for the 1H to be similar to last year.
Gunns' pulp mill delayed again
The Federal Government has not fully approved Gunns' pulp mill in Tasmania. Peter Garrett said more studies on effluent treatment were needed before he could sign-off on the project.
